So yesterday I went in for my 3 hour doctor visit with the ENT. I had my CatScan and then went in for allergy testing. This is my second time doing this test, the first was when I was pregnant with Kaymin. My blood type is B- so we have the Rh factor and I have to have a shot of Rhogam when I am 7th months pregnant and 24 hours after delivery. They call this the "peanut butter" shot because it is so thick. It just remains a huge bubble under your skin until it finally decides to dissolve. They give this shot to you in your hip area and it is NOT fun. Anyway, I broke out in hives everywhere and they sent me in for allergy testing just to make sure it was the shot that I was allergic to. But I wasn't, thank goodness. Okay, back to my story. In the last couple of years they change the way they do it. This time they take 46 vials of serum and rock these things back and forth on your back that break the first layer of your skin and inject the serum there. After she did all 46 of them her eyes got really big and she said, "you know what? I need to give these shots to you right now to see if you are allergic to Glycerin." She gave me two shots in the arm, while I felt like I was going to go crazy because I wanted to itch my back so bad. Anyway, after about a minute or so she says, "well that is all that we can do today. It looks like you are allergic to Glyercin and that is the base of all of our serums so you will break out with everything and are results will be inconclusive." I looked in the mirror and my back was completely red, swollen, and had huge welts all over it. She rubbed alcohol on it and then put some cream that was suppose to take the serum out and make me feel better...it did after about 3 hours. I could only laugh...because really...what else could go wrong. I ended up having to have them draw 4 vials of blood from me for the testing. The only thing is, it will be shipped off to Texas and it will take 1-4 weeks to get the results. After that I went to meet with the ENT. He pulled up my CatScan....and....no infection so he said that we don't have to do surgery. I had no idea that surgery was even in the picture, so I am really happy that I don't have any infection. He did tell me that I have a lot of pressure and congestion and that we need to figure out what is causing it. I do have a deviated septum that I can have corrected, but why in the world would I WANT surgery when I do not have any problems breathing. Anyway, if the test results come back positive that I am allergic to whatever it is he is looking for, then I will have to go in and have drops under my tongue since I cannot have the shot. Which I REALLY HATE shots and so really I am quite happy about that. However, if it comes back negative, then he will have to run more tests on me to see what is causing it. I am just hoping and praying that it is allergies so we can fix the problem without carrying this on any longer. I realize it is a process of elimination, but right now...I just want to feel normal. In the mean time he is having me take Claritin D that is for sinus and allergies. It is 24 hours and it does dull the pain since Tylenol or Ibuprofen doesn't even touch it and it enables me to carry on without having to take Percocet. I just hope it all comes to an end sooner than later.
