1st Day of School

Today is Kaymin's first day of 2nd grade. She has been very skeptical about going because all of her friends are together in a different class and she is by herself in a different one. I've been trying to play up the concept about making new friends, but she doesn't want "new" friends, she already has plenty of friends, so she says. However, things must have changed because she was so excited that she was up at 6 am. I hope she keeps her excitement for school all through college...I highly doubt it, but isn't it good to wish? It made it really easy to be on time and take plenty of pictures. She has always been very photogenic so I've never had to fight with her about getting her picture taken. (Another thing that I hope never changes.) She never even fought with me about her hair. I was so proud of myself for not crying when I left her classroom. This is the first year that I have left with dry eyes. Maybe 2nd grade is going to be the best year so far!!!

The Results are In

Well, the pirate party did not go over very well. Kameni was so excited to wear the eye patch and still has it on. Deilen on the other hand wanted to see and wanted his eye patch off. I was able to get this one picture of the two with theirs on. I wanted to take a family one, but there was no way that was happening. The pain medication that was prescribed for him made him bounce off the walls. We had to keep him off of his bike for 24 hours, so I had to take him on a bike ride to satisfy him. They told us he would sleep most of the day and that didn't happen. In fact he finally feel asleep to take a quick nap at 6pm. Before bed last night Deilen cried to take his patch off. We caved and let him take it off before going to bed. He was so excited he could see and we were so excited to see the results. It looks SO good. The stitches will dissolve in 10 to 14 days and the swelling will continue to go down. He is unable to close that eye all of the way so I have to put ointment in it so the cataract doesn't dry out. The muscle will eventually loosen up a little bit so he should be able to close it a little more than he can today.

Surgery

Wow, we survived...okay, I survived. Deilen's surgery was up at the Moran Eye Center in Salt Lake and we had to be there at 7:30 am. Last night Kaymin and Kameni spent the night at my mom's house and on the way home Deilen asked me if the doctor was going to cut his eye. I told him yes, but it wouldn't hurt. He told me then, he was scared. I could hardly sleep I was nervous even though we've been through this before. The anesthesiologist took him back to "show" him the neat things she had and he left happy and all. That is when my flood gates let down. Blake, Gerrit, and I waited impatiently in the waiting room for close to 2 hours. Finally they came and got us and we were able to see him since he was just waking up. The surgery was successful and Dr. Patel told us that we hopefully will not have to do this again until he hits his teenage years. Right now he has to wear his eye patch and he is not happy. He keeps telling me that the doctor hurt his eye and that he can't see. He has to leave it on for the next 24 hours. We will be having a pirate party tonight at our house. YEAH....it is over!!!

Finally...

Okay, so I know most of you are doing these by now so I already know what you are thinking. It is about time that I joined the band wagon and stepped into 2008. I decided to actually start this today thanks to my friend Jessica who sent me her blog yesterday and finally a light went on. This would be a great way for all of my family and friends to see what we are up to on more of a regular basis than we are now. I know I am horrible at calling or even emailing, but hopefully this will be as addictive as I hear it is and I will be able to keep up on it. I mainly wanted to start today because Deilen will be having surgery tomorrow on his eye again and I wanted to be able to keep those of you interested in seeing (if I can figure out how to add pics) or reading about the progress. Anyway I hope you enjoy it and we'll see what I can figure out.
